Hamlet's of Hope - Helping to Move People of Faith from the Pulpit and Pew to the Pavement
About Us

Hamlets of Hope [HoH] believes the congregational church is well positioned to be a catalyst of spiritual, economic, and cultural transformation that leads to a renewed reality and the creation of the Beloved Shalom Community

In order to do this requires a shift in our understanding of what the disciple’s role is.  The mission of Hamlets of Hope  is to cultivate “a ministry doing mindset” among the faith community ---- moving People of Faith from Pew and Pulpit, to the Pavement to serve thereby creating a balance in hearing and doing the Word of God.

This strategy seeks to grow members into disciples who embrace and carry out the believer’s charge to serve the least, the lost, and the left out.  In this way, disciples fulfill The Great Commission which calls believers to be Salt and Light--witnessing and serving communities throughout the world.

HoH is part of Cheryl Cook's dissertation project at Wesley Theological Seminary's Doctorate in Ministry program-Urban Ministry Track.  As such, the effort is in its formative stage and is being piloted at six faith institutions in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia.  It is the goal of HoH to establish faith Hamlets internationally focused on being Christ to the world, neighborhood, and community.

As an HoH pilot site, your faith family will join a Community of Ministerial Practice [COMP] in covenant relationship to work towards the creation of Shalom communities of Faith, Mission, and Ministry.  If you and the members of your faith institution wrestle with how to re-energize your ministry, engage disciples and the community in a shared vision and faith in action that leads to renewal, restoration and reconciliation---we welcome the opportunity to meet with you and key lay/community leaders to further discuss this initiative and your faith community’s involvement as a partner.

Scriptural Foundation

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him…All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats…"Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;  for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me…'Truly, I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:31-40 NRSV
